Bahrain has officially reopened its permanent diplomatic mission in Beirut, signaling a full restoration of diplomatic ties with Lebanon. The announcement was made by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa during a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who concluded a two-day official visit to the Kingdom.
The move marks a significant thaw in relations after Bahrain shut its embassy in 2021 due to controversial remarks by a former Lebanese minister and tensions linked to Hezbollah. The restoration reflects a new chapter in Bahraini-Lebanese relations, with both nations pledging to enhance cooperation in economic development, security coordination, and regional peace efforts.
According to a joint statement, the two leaders agreed on joint action to fight terrorism, strengthen trade, and support peaceful conflict resolutions. Bahrain reaffirmed its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and political reform path, while President Aoun expressed gratitude and highlighted the need for trustworthy investments.
The renewed ties come as both countries seek stability and collaboration. Bahrain had previously accused Hezbollah of interference and withdrew its envoy alongside other GCC states. With the diplomatic mission reopening, both nations aim to rebuild trust and expand bilateral cooperation.
